A presentation is not just a set of slides, but a powerful tool that solves specific business problems. We decided to test whether artificial intelligence could create not just beautiful, but effective slides. AI services are joining the fray: Gamma, Slidebean, Tome, Slides AI and Canva. Their task is to develop a presentation for a dealer of Chinese ATVs ODES in Russia. We have a standard - slides created by VEONIX designers. Let's compare!

Overview of the functionality of AI services for presentations

Once you type “neural network for presentation” into the search, a dozen services will open in front of you, promising to create perfect slides in seconds. But are they that good? We tested Gamma, Slidebean, Canva, Tome, Slides AI and found out how much AI has advanced in design and whether it can compete with professionals.

Gamma

Gamma is a platform for developing presentations using neural networks. To get started you need to: register, send a task description to the chatbot. You can also create a design based on a ready-made presentation, or import only text from already created presentations. And using a neural network to generate additional slides.

At first glance, it seems that we got minimalistic and bright slides. But the quality of the pictures leaves much to be desired, the AI has already started cutting off people’s heads (for now only in photos, phew..). People look strange, the visuals do not adapt to all templates, some templates are empty, there is little interaction. The arrangement of elements is not thought out. To show such slides, you still need to work and work on them, almost everything needs to be redone.

Pros:

  • Hints;

  • Many languages;

  • Russian-language interface.

Cons:

  • There are some bugs in the generated images;

  • Limited number of templates;

  • Pictures are generated in low quality.

Slidebean

Slidebean - AI for developing presentations based on your website. You just insert a link to the site, the neural network analyzes it and produces the result. Slidebean has templates and the ability to make edits. You can create a presentation for free, but you can’t download it and watch it fully without pop-ups asking for payment.

What did we get?

Dry presentation. Not enough visuals, hard to read text. It’s not even suitable as a basis for further work - it’s too primitive.

Pros:

  • Fast;

  • Simple;

  • Automated.

Cons:

  • Almost no graphics;

  • English interface;

  • Works only with websites

Tome

Tome is an AI platform for presentation, marketing and sales research. The AI feature is paid. You enter a request, the neural network writes the text and designs the slides. There are also ready-made templates on the platform.

  • Clear interface;
  • In Russian.

Cons:

  • Paid AI;
  • Low quality pictures;

Slides AI

Slides AI is a neural network for presentations. It has easy functionality, but the slides are too simple and monotonous, and there is no choice of fonts. Once the slides are ready, you can change their color, but not the text. But the presentation downloads quickly and for free.

What did we get with Slides AI?

  • Simple;

  • Free;

  • Does not require registration.

Cons:

  • Modest design choice;

  • Minimum visual;

  • You cannot edit the text.

Canva

Canva is a design tool that has a neural network for creating presentations for free. Can: generate text, remove backgrounds from pictures, select style and design. But you can also manually create slides using free and paid templates and ready-made images.

Designers or AI?

We got acquainted with five services, let's take a look
the work of designers and sum up. Hurry up and let's go?

How are neural networks made?

Artificial intelligence certainly learns quickly and has its advantages.

Pluses

  • Speed, budget, simplicity;

  • Does not require training in design, marketing, or writing.

Cons

  • They cannot be compared to human work. The slides turn out dry and non-unique;

  • There are a lot of empty spaces, the placement of elements that require attention is not thought out;

  • You can’t make spot edits, you need to clearly and unambiguously formulate the changes (“he won’t play with the fonts”, but will lose);

  • Pictures are of low quality, people do not look natural, sometimes they have extra limbs and other defects;

  • AI does not have a sense of style and the ability to judge which element will evoke positive associations and which negative ones;

  • There may be copyright issues.

How designers create

Let's look at the same case as an example. Mercury DV we had to do it in 4 days, so we carried out parallel development of two design concepts and text. Spoiler: we made it, the client is happy :)

11.png

We have created three-dimensional elements that focus attention on what is important and improve the perception of information.

Each word and paragraph of text was placed exactly where it would be most noticeable and effective.

We created stylish visual elements for each section, taking into account the goals of the slides.

What are the advantages of creating custom presentations?

The project begins with research of the market, competitors, and target audience to create a unique and memorable offer;

Designers don’t just create visuals, but immerse themselves in the philosophy and values of the brand, taking into account all the customer’s experiences;

The presentation is developed from scratch, without templates and plagiarism. Such works have no copyright problems or visual defects.

Specialists introduce current trends and cultural elements into their work, which makes them more relevant.

Nuances

Team work takes longer than automated solutions. But it is precisely such presentations that are remembered and inspire confidence.

AI costs less than the work of designers. However, this price is due to attention to detail, uniqueness and working towards specific goals.

Let's compare the slides of the neural network and the agency

We have prepared 3 tables for you that will clearly show the difference between AI and specialist presentations.

Neural network

1 slide AI

1 Veonix slide

Gamma

Images are cropped poorly, font is lost, and text merges into a continuous canvas without structure.

Bright colors, high-quality images, text is divided into meaningful blocks and accompanied by icons in the style and colors of the company.

Slidebean

The slides do not convey the key idea: the image does not correspond to the context, there is little information, and it is presented “dryly”.

Slides AI

Black text on a white background without any visual or ability to edit.

Canva

A lot of empty space, some of the text is difficult to read due to a poor combination of font and presentation style

Conclusions

It is important to remember that AI is a supporting tool, not a stand-alone mechanism. The real magic lies in creativity, understanding the audience, flexibility of thinking and adjustment to the needs of each company.
